These 12 Hybrid Sedans Have the Best MPG

By Miguel CortinaMotorTrend

Fuel economy is something we all think about before making a new-car purchase. Whether you do it to save on gas or simply because you care about the environment, hybrid sedans that deliver good gas mileage have become quite popular. And having a hybrid powertrain doesn’t necessarily mean you’re driving something boring. These days, electrified sedans often have more power and usually more torque than their internal combustion counterparts, despite their using less fuel. These 12 hybrid sedans with the best mpg could be a good fit for you if you’re thinking about going green.

2020 Toyota GR Supra Long-Term Arrival: Controversy Behind, Let’s See What It’s Really Like for the Year Ahead

By Chris Walton – Words, Renz Dimaandal – Photos – MotorTrend

It’s been two decades since the Toyota Supra was center stage at Toyota dealerships. With the arrival of the all-new A90 generation, believe me when I say we’ve read every one of the “It’s not a real Supra; it’s a BMW with a Toyota badge and body” comments. It’s not, and I wrote a thorough backgrounder on this topic in the March 2019 issue. And would you as an automotive enthusiast prefer both the BMW Z4 M40i and Toyota Supra 3.0, sharing mechanicals as they do, or neither be available right now? Also, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra advanced to the finalist round of our annual Car of the Year contest, and the Z4 did not. MotorTrend en Español managing editor Miguel Cortina wrote a comparison test between the two if you’re still a doubting Thomas. The 2020 Toyota Supra is legit.

2020 Toyota C-HR Review: How Does It Stack Up & Should You Buy It?

By Denis Flierl – Automoblog

The 2020 Toyota C-HR is built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) C-platform. The ride is smooth and the handling is crisp, but the amount of engine noise inside may turn buyers off. The C-HR looks sharp on the outside, but drivers may feel like they are paying the price when dealing with blind spots. While there are redeeming qualities, the 2020 Toyota C-HR is probably not our first choice in a segment ripe with options.

Toyota RAV4 Fuel Economy: What Kind of MPG Does it Get in the Real World?

By Kelly LinMotorTrend

The Toyota RAV4 achieves competitive fuel economy in its segment—if you look at the EPA numbers. But as we know, these figures don’t always reflect real-world driving. So how efficient is the RAV4 really? We conducted our own fuel economy test to find out.

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 AWD in our long-term fleet is EPA-rated at 25/33/28 mpg city/highway/combined. But we recorded a much better highway number, which bumped up the RAV4’s combined rating by a considerable margin. Our Real MPG results came in at 24.2/39.1/29.2 mpg, making the RAV4 more efficient than our long-term 2017 Honda CR-V Touring AWD, which scored 21.9/34.2/26.1 mpg. Pretty impressive.

2020 BMW X4 M Competition Review: Over The Edge

By: Clint SimoneMotor1

The age of the performance crossover is now. Fast, high-riding cars are truly having a moment, with fantastic options from all over Europe now doing battle to get showroom attention. As their ranks grow, it’s getting harder for performance CUVs to stand out from the crowd. Automakers are addressing this issue by adding even more performance to fully leaded crossovers.

Look no further than the 2020 BMW X4 M Competition, a more powerful version of the already potent X4 M. That lengthy badge equates to one of the most ferocious, capable crossovers on the market, with plenty of visual flair on offer, too. BMW’s smaller crossover coupe gets the full M treatment with over 500 horsepower, dramatic styling, and suspension tuning that makes it a surprisingly great candidate for a track day. But not so much a daily driver. For the enthusiast willing to swap comfort for outright performance, this is your ultimate crossover machine. For everyone else who just wants some extra grunt in their CUV, this M car goes a little too far.

Lexus LC Loses Weight For 2021, Gains New Colors And Wheels

By: Christopher SmithMotor1

There’s no denying that the Lexus LC stands out in a crowd. For the 2021 model year, Lexus hopes to make its suave coupe stand out just a bit more with new color options, wheel options, and perhaps a slight uptick in performance. We say slight because power remains the same, but there’s a bit less weight for those ponies – either in standard or hybrid trim – to manage.

Admittedly, the weight loss is minor. The automaker tells us approximately 22 pounds was cut from the LC, accomplished primarily through suspension changes. New lower control arms are aluminum, with new hollow-design suspension stabilizers incorporating a revised diameter. Coil springs are made of a new material as well. The 21-inch wheels are also a bit lighter, though curiously, Lexus says that only applies to the rear wheels.

2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet First Drive: Isolation Angel

By Jonny Lieberman – Words, Brandon Lim – Photos – MotorTrend

I eyeballed the achingly good-looking, red-roofed 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet in GT Silver Metallic parked out front next to my Ford. The fleet company left the sanitized key inside the unlocked car then essentially ding-dong ditched me. This Porsche 911 Carrera S—the first convertible version of the Best Driver’s Car-winning 992 that MotorTrend has had in for testing—will not be tested.

The California Speedway, our test facility, was not designated as an “essential” business (methinks someone in Sacramento is gonna need to give the word “essential” a rethink) and as a result, we ain’t testing nothing for the foreseeable future. What to do with this $147,280 thing, then? A rhetorical question, for sure, though with the world’s economy tanked and in the gutter, a relevant rhetorical query at least.

2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition Review: Bark Over Bite

By: Jeff PerezMotor1

The Lexus RC F isn’t perfect. A laggy transmission, tons of understeer, and a curb weight that rivals some full-size sedans make it not as alluring in a class that includes very good alternatives like the BMW M4, Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, and Audi RS5. But, look at the silver lining: the RC F is one of the only remaining options with a V8, where many of its rivals have turned to turbocharged six-cylinders. It’s absurdly comfortable, too, with one of the nicest interiors you’ll find anywhere. And for 2020, in an effort to address some of those issues, Lexus went all-out and created an RC F designed exclusively for the track… or so it wants us to think.

2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S First Drive: Better Than Ever

By Chris Walton – Words, William Walker – Photos – MotorTrend

“So, whaddaya think?” Jonny Lieberman asked with his arms folded, head tilted back and to the left, as Jonny does. He had just driven the 992-generation 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S to our photo location on L.A. ‘s favorite twisty bit, Angeles Crest Highway. He lives a few miles from the base of the hill, so he knows this stretch of road by heart.

“Unreal! How did they do that? It’s a blend of what the 991.2 Turbo S was and a GT3 RS,” I said. “It’s sharp, delicate, precise, talkative, but bloody fast, too. I wasn’t expecting this at all. This is a driver’s car.”

“Yeah,” Jonny said. “This car is definitely headed to MotorTrend’s 2020 Best Driver’s Car.”

2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid: 4 Features We Like and 3 We Don’t

By Miguel Cortina – Words, Jade Nelson – Photos – MotorTrend

We first saw the new Hyundai Sonata last year at its reveal in the new Hyundai Design Studio in Soul, South Korea. We were impressed by its lavish design and technology for a mainstream midsize sedan. Since then, we’ve had a chance to drive it, and earlier this year at the Chicago auto show we saw its first green iteration. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid arrives with styling similar to the gas version, but it’s a little more powerful and can deliver up to 54 mpg, according to the EPA.
