2022 Volkswagen Tiguan First Look: Look Who’s Getting Sleeker

By Frank MarkusMotorTrends

VW’s global bestseller is getting nips, tucks, and fresh technology.

You might not guess it to look around on American roadways, but the Volkswagen Tiguan was the brand’s global bestseller of 2019, with nearly a million units moved around the world. The U.S. snapped up 109,572 of them—an impressive 133 percent improvement over 2017. That was the year the current, stretched MQB variant launched in this country, and because its global short-wheelbase sibling launched in 2016, the refresh clock says the vehicle is due for a nip and tuck.

We’re told to expect new front-end styling that includes reshaped hood sheetmetal. Product marketing boss Dr. Hendrik Muth describes the new look as “a little bit less horizontal, very sporty, and a bit more masculine in its stance.” It will also feature 100 percent LED lighting—simple high-/low-beam LED headlights on base models and adaptive front lighting on top trims (alas, smart “matrix” lighting is not yet approved for the U.S. ). The rear is similarly updated, also with full LED lighting.

2020 Toyota Corolla XSE Hatchback Interior Review: Can Small Still Be Premium?

By Edward Loh, Words; Renz Dimaandal – Photos – MotorTrend

When the latest-gen Toyota Corolla was evaluated at our 2019 Car of the Year program, we lauded it as the best-driving Corolla in a long time, and we gave it high marks for its premium-feeling interior. Have our feelings about the latter changed a year later? Find out as we go inside, literally and figuratively, the 2020 Toyota Corolla.

Our fully loaded 2020 Corolla XSE hatchback tester came equipped with the 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine and CVT transmission. Resplendent in a color Toyota calls Blue Flame, with a mostly grey/black interior, our Corolla tester was sharp enough to garner appreciative nods from a couple young dudes in a Honda Civic Si while we were out on a test drive.

2021 Toyota Supra Gets Worse EPA Numbers Than 2020 Model

By: Angel SergeevMotor1

Back in February this year, Toyota unveiled the 2021 Toyota Supra with a healthy power boost, lots of upgrades, and an A91 Special Edition model. The sports coupe probably won’t reach showrooms before this summer but MotorTrend has already obtained the Supra’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) efficiency numbers for the 2021 model year. They are slightly worse than before but we can live with that.

According to the publication, the 2021 Toyota Supra will return 22 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. For a comparison, the 2020 model year variant was estimated at 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined measured by the EPA’s fuel efficiency test cycle.

2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE Review: Gem in the Lineup

By Kelly Lin – Words Brandon Lim – Photos – MotorTrends

The Toyota RAV4 dominates the sales charts, but we’ve spent enough time behind the wheel to know it’s a middling competitor in its segment. Although we’ve praised its stylish cabin and abundant safety features, we’re quite unimpressed with its chassis and powertrain. Fortunately, the RAV4 Hybrid changes the narrative, correcting many of the gas RAV4’s flaws, all while delivering 40 mpg.

RAV4 Hybrid Design

We’d argue the RAV4 is one of the most attractive vehicles in its segment. Eschewing the bulbous look of many competitors, the RAV4 features chiseled lines and strong, squared-off corners. Our XSE Hybrid tester is particularly stylish, sporting black accents all around the exterior, including the fender arches, rocker panels, and roof. Eighteen-inch black wheels complete the look, giving this RAV4 a lot more presence than your average mainstream compact SUV.

The Top Gear car review: Porsche 911 Turbo S

By TopGear

Taken objectively, the last Porsche 911 Turbo was all the sports car you’d ever need. Its jet speed and sure-footed handling combined with all the boring-but-true facts about being reliable and easy to live to make it nigh on perfect. But, thanks to our monkey brains’ insatiable desire for more power, control, grip and car park status, it wasn’t all that you’d want forever.

Ford Explorer vs. Chevrolet Traverse: Domestic SUV Duke-Out

By Nick Yekikian – Words, Wes Allison – Photos – MotorTrend

Which American automaker makes the better three-row SUV? Bad news first: Both the 2020 Ford Explorer and 2019 Chevrolet Traverse feature a number of off-putting compromises. Neither is revolutionary on the road, and both come with interiors that must be better in order to justify their price points. Luckily, if you’re a parent in need of an American three-row SUV—in both name and country of origin—with a lot of room for the kiddos, one of these three-row family haulers is still much better than the other.

2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty Tremor Diesel First Test: An Unstoppable Force

By Scott EvansMotorTrend

How about that new 7.3-liter V-8 in the Ford Super Duty? It measures up at 430 hp and 475 lb-ft, and it’s able to hit 60 mph in a 7,200-pound F-350 Tremor wearing knobby off-road tires in just 7.3 seconds. Not just poetic, but pretty good for a factory-built monster truck, right? Eh. Have you heard you can get it with a diesel?

And not just any diesel. The 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks get a 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V-8 that makes 475 hp and, seriously, a ridiculous 1,050 lb-ft of torque. But wait, there’s more. You can get this gargantuan engine with the new Tremor off-road package on most F-250s and single-rear-wheel F-350s. A thousand lb-ft of torque in a factory off-roader with a lift, 35-inch tires, and a winch. It’s a beautiful thing.

2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition: Ultimate Bug-Out Buggy?

By Frank Markus – Words Steven Pham – Photos – MotorTrends

My week in the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition started off with an expensive-sounding, expletive-inciting “crunch” noise. I was merely pulling the pristine flagship Toyota into my garage for safe keeping, proceeding at a yacht-mooring pace when the blood-curdling noise came from overhead. “That ridiculous overlanding roof basket!” I correctly surmised.

It had not occurred to me that a factory-equipped Toyota wouldn’t fit in my garage. The spec sheet height of 74 inches suggests 10 inches of clearance. The standard luggage rack adds 3 inches to that and the basket another 6-3/4. My open garage door apparently hung down just far enough to snag the basket’s wind deflector.

Cheap Wheels, SUV Edition: 2020 Kia Soul vs. 2020 Nissan Kicks vs. 2020 Hyundai Venue vs. 2020 Toyota C-HR

By Stefan Ogbac – Words, Brandon Lim – Photos – MotorTrend

Which affordable subcompact SUV should you get?

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program of dream machines with a break into the real world—where millennials wrangle underwhelming paychecks against a mountain of student debt, high rent, and the necessity of car ownership.

Enter our showdown of lovable, affordable SUVs. Sure, there will be compromises—what do you expect from a car that costs “just” a semester’s tuition at Skidmore but doesn’t have the power to leave skid marks? That said, the better entries won’t make you feel like you compromised.
