Fastest SUVs In The World For 2020-2021

By: Brett T. EvansMotor1

These 20 hot-headed haulers give sports cars a run for their money.

Hot sport-utes are more popular now than ever, tracing their lineage back to our favorite examples from the ‘90s: the Lamborghini LM002, GMC Typhoon, Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG, and Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited. But unlike those slightly crude progenitors, today’s fast SUV must also be able to handle corners like a sports car, cruise over bumps like a limo, and offer plenty of space for packages and people.

The 20 high-riding haulers on this list represent the fastest and sportiest SUVs on the market today. Some feature hybridization, others are all-electric, some have six cylinders, and some twelve. There’s a variety of sizes and styles, although they all have one thing in common – they’re each pretty spendy (though some are Brooks Brothers and some are Burberry). Each entry on this list offers its own spicy take on the fast SUV formula, with different priorities for virtually every power-obsessed utility buyer.

BMW X6 M Competition vs. Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S: Asphalt Carvers

By Miguel Cortina – Words; William Walker – Photos – MotorTrend

BMW X6 M vs. Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 : Two Germans rivals go head to head.

We love driving fast. We like SUVs. When you merge those two together, you get fast and powerful SUVs. Sounds like fun, no?

BMW’s M division and Mercedes-AMG are both known for their performance coupes, but lately they’ve been crafting sporty SUVs with the aim of delivering the same go-fast experience you’d expect in one of their high-performance cars. Sure, SUVs are bigger, taller, and heavier, but when you add a powerful engine, retune the suspension, and add all-wheel drive, the result is a thrilling experience. The BMW X6 M Competition and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S are two gripping SUVs whose job is simple yet difficult to achieve: enchant the driver. The two automakers share the same objective, but each goes about the execution in its own way. Which one does it best?

BMW Unveils the iX3 EV SUV—It’s an Electric X3

By Kelly LinMotorTrend

The BMW iX3 is the automaker’s first electric crossover SUV, and it launches later this year in China. BMW’s latest battery-electric vehicle rounds out the already diverse X3 lineup, which includes gasoline, diesel, and plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid powertrains.

Power for the BEV Bimmer comes courtesy of an electric motor that produces 286 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. According to BMW, that’s enough grunt to propel the rear-drive crossover SUV to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds, making it 0.4 second slower than its four-cylinder X3 counterpart. The EV crossover’s top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph. Adaptive dampers are standard, too, though buyers can upgrade to a sportier M-tuned setup.

Chevrolet Trailblazer First Drive

By Scott Evans – Words; William Walker – Photos – MotorTrend

Rescue-Blazer: Saving a friend, their kids, and their stuff from a bigger broken-down SUV and the desert.

One of my oldest friends had bid farewell to her husband just weeks prior as he deployed overseas. They’d packed up the apartment in Miami and shipped most of it back to our hometown on California’s Central Coast with the help of the Air Force, but her, the kids, and her car needed to get across the country in the middle of the pandemic. They’d considered flying, but between the health risks and the cost of both plane tickets and shipping the car, she elected to drive. Two kids under seven, a 7-year-old Ford Escape, and 2,500 miles: What could go wrong?

Ford Bronco Sport: The Cool Little Brother

By Frank Markus – Words; Steven Pham– Photos – MotorTrend

Every Jeep model carries a spark of the original flame kindled by the iconic WWII Willys original. This makes it way easier to sell Jeeps, even the ones that don’t still resemble the primordial jeep.

Ford (which incidentally built almost as many original jeeps for the war as Willys) wants in on that action. So it’s reviving its own nostalgic icon—the Bronco—and aiming it squarely at the Wrangler. But only one in four Jeeps sold in the U.S. is a Wrangler, and Ford needs its Bronco-mania to entice a wider audience. Behold the Escape-based 2021 Ford Bronco Sport.

2021 Ford Bronco Unveiled: More Than Nostalgia

By Jonny Lieberman, Frank Markus – Words; Steven Pham,William Walker– Photos – MotorTrend

Thunderclouds threaten as our group stands in the middle of Johnson Valley OHV Area, looking at two pre-production versions of the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco. One is a Cactus Gray four-door Badlands hardtop, but we can’t take our eyes off the Cyber Orange two-door Black Diamond Bronco with the removable roof fully removed. It looks utterly fabulous.

A concept car come to life, driven straight off the auto show stand to an off-road paradise known for King of the Hammers. The consensus: Ford is gonna sell a million of these things. The 2021 Bronco—especially the papaya-colored small fry—just looks right on.
