2021 Toyota 4Runner

Toyota 4Runner Video Review: More Than an Off-Roader? Step aside RAV4; for those who want more utility and off-road toughness in their SUV, the 4Runner is a tried and true option. It stands as the middle child of Toyota’s SUV lineup, above the C-HR, RAV4, Venza, and Highlander, but below the Sequoia and Land Cruiser. The 4Runner shares a platform with the more luxurious Lexus GX for those who want an off-road capable midsize SUV that can coddle them a bit more than a top-trim Toyota.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST First Test

Chevrolet sold 594,094 Silverado pickup trucks in America last year. Again, that’s last year—you know, the bad one with the global pandemic. Also, General Motors will hate me for mentioning this, but since the two vehicles are virtually identical, we really ought to toss in the 253,016 Sierras GMC managed to move in 2020. Grand total: 847,110 trucks. I mention these massive sales figures because I always get a bit nervous when reviewing a product that sells in such bulk.

Porsche sold 8,839 examples of the 911 last year. That’s a number I can wrap my head around, and maybe I can say something that will affect those numbers. One man’s opinion about the second-best-selling vehicle (Ford’s F-Series total in 2020 was 787,372 units) in the United States of America? I’m throwing a pebble into the proverbial ocean. You know what? I’m still gonna try, dammit.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE Drive

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid delivers more power and better fuel economy than its gas-powered stablemate. It also drives better, is a bit quicker, and doesn’t compromise interior space. The hybrid-exclusive XSE displays more aggressive styling compared to the other trims, and it delivers decent value. We recently spent a week driving a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid XSE during a recent visit to Houston, and although there are points where it can improve, this particular RAV4 checks many of the boxes customers are looking for in a compact SUV, making it an attractive option in a competitive segment.

2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid

The hybrid version of Honda’s top-ranked compact SUV offers everything we love about its gas-only sibling plus excellent efficiency. It is Honda’s only hybrid SUV but size-wise, it’s positioned between the smaller HR-V and the midsize Passport and Pilot. This CR-V’s stiffest competition comes in the forms of other compact hybrid SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid.

2021 VW ID4 vs Honda CR-V Hybrid Comparison Test

Our choice of vehicles for this SUV comparison test is bound to raise eyebrows. Shouldn’t we compare the new battery-powered 2021 Volkswagen ID4 with another electric car? That’s how our industry has been doing things, but the time is rapidly approaching when Jane and John Consumer will routinely consider electric as an alternative to internal combustion power. It’s time to start treating electric vehicles like mainstream cars, so let’s compare the ID4 with one of the best eco-friendly crossovers on the market, the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS63 First Test

The Mercedes-AMG GLS63 is the kind of vehicle nobody asked for, but Mercedes built it anyway because it can. The rationale for this thinking: Who needs another three-row luxury SUV from Mercedes when we already have the GLS450 and GLS580? Maybe the cool moms and dads who want sports car performance in a Clifford the Big Red Dog-size SUV. Or the millennial investor who is trying to impress his entourage by showing them what a nearly 3-ton sport utility can do on back roads.

In any case, we put a 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS63 through our battery of track testing, drove it on the intense streets of Los Angeles, and had some fun with it on scenic roads in Santa Clarita and Pasadena for a complete evaluation. We wanted to know if the sleeper of luxury SUVs merits a $153,125 price tag and lives up to the AMG nameplate. Does it? Read on to find out.

2021 BMW X6 M Competition First Test

“I like the X6 M because it’s so silly,” is how senior features editor Jonny Lieberman put it. “Nothing so large should be able to do what this thing does.” MotorTrend en Español managing editor Miguel Cortina summed his impression of the 2021 BMW X6 M Competition with, “The driving characteristics that it blends and delivers are ridiculous. It’s just pure fun.” Indeed, a luxury midsize fastback SUV weighing 5,200 pounds should not be able take a corner at nearly 1.00 g, run to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, or stop from 60 mph in 102 feet. Yet, here it is.
