2022 Kia Rio

Surviving another year, the 2022 Kia Rio is better than you’d expect of a subcompact. While others have abandoned the segment entirely, Kia continues to support entry-level buyers who don’t want the larger Forte sedan. For the 2022 model year, the Rio returns mostly unchanged and continues to be offered as a sedan or hatchback.

2022 Kia Carnival

“Where are the other ones?!” This frequent refrain from our judges cut to the core of why the all-new Kia Carnival wasn’t a 2022 Car of the Year finalist. Blame our organizing committee: The only version we requested was a loaded, top-shelf SX Prestige model with the unremovable but fabulous VIP second-row lounge seats. Thus, our judges had to determine its fate using only a version that doesn’t “minivan” as well as others might.

2022 Kia Stinger GT

When Kia brought the Stinger five-passenger sport sedan to compete for the 2018 MotorTrend Car of the Year award, we were delighted with its capability, but the lineup suffered from an underpowered base engine.

The Stinger is back to address that complaint with a new 2.5-liter I-4 that puts out 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The power output represents an impressive 45-hp hike over the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder it replaces, and the new mill is more fuel efficient.

2022 Kia Carnival EX First Test

The mid-level Carnival EX has its charms, and it all comes at a solid price. After falling out of favor in the early 2000s, minivans are finally in vogue again. All right, not really—just checking to make sure you’re paying attention. But as long as these workhorses continue to offer much more utility than their stylish three-row SUV counterparts, you can make a strong case for the minivan’s survival. And the new 2022 Kia Carnival is already a top pick.

2022 Kia Sportage Technical Specifications

It was about a month ago when Kia premiered the fifth-generation Sportage with its radical makeover and now the compact crossover is back to reveal its technical specifications. Bear in mind we’re dealing with the global / KDM version featuring the longer wheelbase as Europe will be getting a shorter-wheelbase model. You can easily tell this is the LWB by looking at the size of the rear doors.

Speaking of size, the stretched 2022 Sportage is 4660 millimeters (183.5 inches) long, 1865 mm (73.4 in) wide, and 1660 mm (65.3 in) tall, with the wheelbase measuring 2755 mm (108.4 in). According to Kia, these proportions along with the improved packaging brought by the new platform give the compact crossover segment-leading headroom, legroom, and cargo capacity (637 liters).

2021 Kia K5 vs. Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy has been offered with all-wheel drive since its inception in 1989, but AWD didn’t come standard on U.S. models until the second-gen Legacy arrived several years later. The new 2021 Kia K5, on the other hand, carries an AWD badge right out of the gate, distinguishing itself from the Hyundai Sonata, which shares its platform and powertrain. The 2021 Subaru Legacy and Kia K5 are rather different cars in terms of styling and their overall approach, but how does the Legacy stand against its newest direct competitor?

Mazda CX-30 vs Kia Seltos

By Nick Yekikian – MotorTrend

The 2021 Kia Seltos is the brand’s latest entrant in the SUV octagon, and it enters the arena with a full head of steam. Last year Kia delivered a knockout punch in the form of the three-row Telluride. It was so good, we named it our 2020 SUV of the Year. With the recent release of the handsome new K5 sedan, as well as a redesigned Sorento crossover making its way to our shores, it’s safe to say that Kia is on a roll. The question is, can anyone stop this South Korean juggernaut?

Well, Mazda certainly has a contender in the CX-30. The hatchback-based CUV gives the Seltos a run for its money—but when it comes to dollars and cents, the Mazda is starting on its metaphorical back foot. The 2020 Mazda CX-30 with Premium package we’re using for this comparison is actually more expensive than the Seltos SX it’s up against. The Mazda stickers for $31,425, while the Kia will run you $29,485 all in.

2020 Hyundai Venue vs 2020 Kia Soul: So Close, but Oh So Far

By Nick Yekikian – Words, Brandon Lim – Photos, MotorTrend

Let’s get one thing clear: Kia Motors is owned by the Hyundai Group. Although their product lines follow different formulas, much of what the two brands sell happens to be closely related. For example, the Kia Stinger and the Genesis G70 are based on the same platform but are tuned very differently. The subjects of this comparison, the similar-sized Kia Soul and Hyundai Venue, are also based on the same platform, but you’d never know it based on the way they drive.

Underneath, the Kia Soul and Hyundai Venue are both the same car. You might recall that the Soul was a MotorTrend Car of the Year finalist last year because it was good—very good—and think that’s great news for the Venue, too. But what two automakers do with a shared platform can yield very different results—especially if the use cases are different.

2020 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD First Test

By Christian Seabaugh – Words, Brandon Lim – Photos – MotorTrend

America is missing out on this criminally overlooked sedan. We auto enthusiasts are a fickle bunch. We demand manual transmissions or rear-wheel-drive platforms (or both) but then don’t buy them. Pontiac G8? Dead. Chevrolet SS? Gone. Ford Fiesta ST? See ya. It seems like every time an automaker designs and builds a car with us in mind, it ends up getting unceremoniously dumped after a truncated production run. Some time spent with the 2020 Kia Stinger GT AWD reminded me that we’d be remiss if we let that fate befall Kia’s fantastic sport sedan.
