2021 Audi S4 Pros and Cons Review

By Jonny LiebermanMotorTrend

All-new for the 2017 model year, the 2021 Audi A4 is a midcycle refresh of the sports sedan. But some refreshes are milder than others.

The sheet metal of the A4, and its S4 sibling, is ever so slightly tweaked. The infotainment and digital dash screens are new, too. Otherwise not much else changes. Engines and transmissions carry over. Why bother to include it in our 2021 Car of the Year competition? Well, the A4 has impressed us with its dynamics and chic, understated design inside and out. Besides, maybe Audi tuned a thousand little things that, when summed, wow us out of our socks.

How Far Has the Audi S4 Come In 14 Years?

By Nick Yekikian – Words; Renz Dimaandal – Photos – MotorTrend.

I’m not even going to try and sell you on the 2006 Audi S4. The old, V-8-powered, manual sport sedan featured in this comparison shares absolutely nothing with the 2020 Audi S4 we recently reviewed—aside from the badges on their nose and rump. But the black Audi S4 from 2006 you see before you is mine, and after I spent a little time in the brand new car, I thought it would be nice to look back and see how my little old Audi stacks up against the latest and greatest from Ingolstadt.

The new car is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 349 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed through a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic to all four wheels via Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi says the new S4 will reach 60 mph from a standstill in 4.4 seconds, but the 2018 car we tested did it in just 4.2 seconds. The 2020 S4 also costs $50,895 at base—but the car we tested was priced at $62,840.

2020 Audi S4 First Test: Does it Improve the Sport Sedan Breed?

By Nick Yekikian, Jade NelsonMotorTrend

Most of the time we get into our cars out of necessity. There’s always a destination—an appointment to keep or a shift to start. More often than not, that’s the reason I get behind the wheel, too. But occasionally I get the chance to hit the road with absolutely nowhere to go. That was exactly the case when I picked up a Daytona Gray Pearl 2020 Audi S4 from the MotorTrend office a few weeks ago.

Keys in hand, it was time to get acquainted with my new partner. Virtual cockpit? Check. Audi‘s MMI? Check. Rotary controller? Ah, that’s right, it’s gone. The infotainment setup in the S4 is now touchscreen only, and a wallet-sized bin has replaced the control knob that used to do all the work.

2020 Audi S4 First Drive: Perfectly Packaged Performance

By Alisa Priddle

There is something very Goldilocks about an Audi S4. The compact sport sedan is just the right size; the turbocharged V-6 is powerful and lusty enough to offer a thrill while still serving as a comfortable daily driver, and the Audi-caliber interior is just premium enough without dipping into a luxury coma that might threaten to lull the senses.

For the 2020 model year, the S4 gets a significant refresh—enough change to warrant a trip to Palm Springs, California, and a drive through the desert to see how the new S4 stands up.
